Kirklees Families Together

Kirklees Families Together provides information, advice and support for families, including help with parenting, emotional wellbeing, services & activities for children and young people and adult learning and employment.

Referral criteria:

Family must have a child aged 0-18, or 25 with SEND.
Primarily support families, but will also support professionals.
No diagnosis needed.

Home Start

Home-Start Kirklees provides trained volunteers who support parents and carers at home with confidence, parenting, routines, emotional wellbeing, community activities, and access to information and advice, with support tailored to each family's needs.

Referral criteria:

Families with a child under 11, or are expecting a baby/post 20 weeks pregnancy.
No diagnosis needed.

Kirklees Success Centres - Journey Together

Journey Together is a 5-week course that helps parents and carers learn more about SEND, support their child's needs and meet other families. It covers understanding SEND, managing daily routines, supporting communication, getting help from education services and looking after your own wellbeing.

Referral criteria:

Families with children 0-25.
No diagnosis needed.

What about siblings? - Kirklees Young Carers

The Kirklees Young Carer service helps young people aged 8-17 who look after someone in their family who is ill or disabled. Young carers can get one-to-one or group support to help them manage their caring role, feel less worried, and get the right help for themselves and their family.

Referral criteria:

Young person aged between 8-17 with caring responsibilities.

PEGS - Parental Education Growth Support

PEGS supports parents, carers and guardians who are experiencing harmful behaviour from their child. Free online support is available across the UK, providing a safe space to talk, be listened to, get advice and connect with others that understand.

Referral criteria:

Parents.
Self referral form by parent or professional.
Specifically for parents and professionals

Early Years Portage - Home-based offer

Home Portage visitors work in partnership with parents and carers to identify what is important to them and their child, and to plan learning goals within the home. Teaching targets are delivered through a small-steps approach based on the Portage and Early Years Foundation Stage principles, usually through weekly visits to the home. Empowering parents to support their child’s learning is central to home Portage. Sensory audits and passports are offered for all children who would benefit, and one-page profiles are developed for all children through a strengths-based approach.

Stay and Play sessions are also available and parents are invited along to these sessions where fundamentals of communication are modelled, including intensive interaction and the use of visual support systems.

Families with children aged 0-5.
Primarily support parents, but also support professionals in childcare settings that the child attends.

EYSEND - Early Years SEND Outreach Inclusion Offer

Inclusion officers work in partnership with parents, carers and practitioners within early learning and childcare settings, for children up to the age of 5. Through a consultation-based approach, early learning needs will be identified, and appropriate teaching strategies will be planned. Teaching is delivered through a small-steps approach based on the Portage and EYFS principles. Our Inclusion officers also offer support in identifying and accessing appropriate childcare for children with complex needs.

Not time-limited. Cases are closed based on the child's needs.

Referral criteria:

Childcare settings for children up to age 5.
Primarily support PVI settings, but will offer one-off additional and bespoke support for families, where identified as appropriate.
No diagnosis required.

EYSEND - Early Years SEND Portex Outreach

Portex Teachers work in partnership with parents, carers, class teachers and SENDCOs within maintained mainstream schools. A consultation-based approach is used to identify early learning needs, and appropriate teaching strategies are planned. Teaching is delivered through a small steps approach.

Referral criteria:

Childcare settings with children aged 3-5 years.
Primarily support professionals, but will support families through the setting.
No diagnosis needed.

Kirklees Specialist Outreach

Whole-school support
Link specialist teachers provide support to mainstream schools to meet the needs of pupils with SEND, working in partnership with school staff and other professionals to support inclusive, high-quality teaching and the graduated approach to meeting needs.

The service provides:

* regular planning and review meetings with SENDCos to:

agree a bespoke support and delivery plan based on the school’s priorities/needs.
provide advice and support for specific cohorts, classes, departments and at whole school level.

*excellent and extensive free training and development to help staff develop understanding, confidence and skills within a specific area.

Clusters
Outreach staff form part of the Team around the Cluster, working collaboratively and supportively following the solution-focused approach. The training offer can also be provided at Cluster level.

Referral criteria:

School setting for children in Year 1 to Year 11.
Support for education settings.
Links will be made with families to ensure strengths and needs of a pupils are considered holistically.

Parent Support Groups

Kirklees and surrounding areas have a large variety of support groups that can be accessed by parents and carers. The purpose of these groups is to provide a community where parents can feel connected to others with similar experiences, open up in conversation, and receive support.
